Donald Judd is considered one of the most prominent American artists of the twentieth century. Primarily known for his art objects that utilized material, space, and color in new and transformative ways, Judd also created paintings, prints, and furniture. His radical ideas and work continue to provoke and influence the fields of art, architecture, and design. A prolific art critic, Judd continued to write throughout his career, addressing the relationship of art practice to architecture, design, and political action. As an artist, he started out as a painter before turning to three-dimensional work which employed the use of industrial materials.

Fun Fact: Judd purchased 101 Spring Street for $68,000 and moved artworks in through the windows of the building. The buildings which comprise the Block were part of an automotive repair and tire shop.
